Trends for 2016 : Pantone Colour of the Year

As 2015 draws to a close, many of us are thinking about New Year’s resolutions. Many of us promise to eat better, exercise more, and generally improve ourselves – but don’t leave your home out of the improvement drive! Once the hubbub of Christmas has faded, it will be the perfect time to give your house a facelift and bring it bang up to date with the latest trends.

Pantone, the world-renowned authority on colour, have just announced their colour of the year for 2016 – or perhaps we should say colours, because for the first time they have actually chosen two colours!

Pantone Colour of the Year 2016

The Pantone Colour of the Year is a symbolic selection – chosen to reflect an expression of the current mood, attitude and zeitgeist of today’s society. This year, the selection of the delicate pink Rose Quartz and cool blue of Serenity (Pantones 13-1520 & 15-3919) is said to reflect an increasing search for mindfulness, well-being and reassurance, as well as societal movements towards gender equality.

It’s a pairing that’s perfect for relaxation – making it an ideal choice for your home.

Bases and Accents

If you like to use the Pantone Colour of the Year as inspiration for your home decor, you do of course face one significant issue – it changes every year! Most of us don’t want to completely redecorate every year, so keeping up to date can be an issue.

There is, however, a very easy way around this; simply use a pleasant neutral tone for the base of your decor, and add the Pantone colours as accents and highlights, which you can easily change.

Our range of Villeroy and Boch tiles includes plenty of stunning options in neutral grey and beige tones, which are perfect for creating a simple, clean interior for your bathroom or kitchen. From there, you can choose to paint or tile a feature wall in accent colours, or add soft furnishings and ornaments in your chosen colours, or even both.

For example, you may choose to paint a feature wall in the warm tones of Rose Quartz, to give your room a cosy and inviting feeling, and coordinate accessories in the room in Serenity blue as a contrast.

Then, when 2017’s colour is announced, all you need to do to update is buy a pot of paint and some new accessories!
