Decorating the Guest Bedroom

Decorating the Guest Bedroom

If you have a spare room in your home that is currently just used to store everything and anything, we suggest that you consider transforming it into a room that your friends and family would feel comfortable staying in.

A well thought out and designed guest bedroom is one that makes your loved ones feel welcome. They won’t be expecting a 5* hotel but you can make their stay happy and cosy!

Don’t Avoid Colours

When people hear the words “modern” and “fresh” they often associate it with “plain” and “boring.” This couldn’t be further from the truth; especially when it comes to decorating your guest room! Don’t be afraid to use bold and bright colours in the room; it doesn’t have to be all white. We suggest making sure that the colours you use for the walls match in well with the furniture and accessories that you have chosen! If you’re not too sure about too much colour, you could simply add a pop of colour with a feature wall!

Use the Wall Space

You’re probably not going to hang all your personal family pictures in your guest room, but that doesn’t mean that you have to leave the walls empty. We suggest using some of the wall space to create a homely feel to the room. Things like a mirror, a clock and some nice pictures can make the room look less clinical and more lived in!

A mirror is always a good idea as it can actually reflect the outside light and make the room appear a lot bigger. They are also helpful for when getting ready in the morning – your guests will appreciate a full length one!

Provide Storage for Their Things

It’s important that you give your guests somewhere to store their things during their stay in your home. This is so they don’t have to leave it lying around on the floor or thrown over chairs. It also stops your guests from living out of their suitcase for their entire stay; this isn’t fun. All you need to do is provide them with draw or wardrobe space. If this isn’t possible, supply them with hangers so that they can hang their clothes up to keep them from getting wrinkled.

Don’t Forget the Essentials

We think that it’s always best to be prepared for when you have guests staying over. You should be equipped to provide them with all the essential items that they will need during their space. Whilst your guestroom obviously isn’t a hotel, it’s still nice to make them feel welcome and comfortable.

We suggest supplying them with towels, extra bedding and pillows, a book or two to read and some scented hair and body bathroom goodies. It doesn’t have to be anything expensive – you just want them to feel at home!
