DIY Interior Design: The Do’s & Don’tsLee Johnson
When it comes to DIY these days, we are all becoming far more confident in our ability to spruce up our homes, and add a little ’60 minute makeover’ magic to our beautiful abode.
Of course, with so many tools, materials and wonderful interior styles available, it’s hard to not be completely inspired by the latest trends and must-have decors. So, as lovers of all things home style, the Kendal Tile & Stone team have put together this short guide to help you add a little pizzazz to your home and transform it from drab to ‘fab’ with a little interior know-how. Enjoy.
DO Enhance Your Space
Whether your home is small or large, don’t ever feel that your creativity is limited due to a lack of space. Instead, aim to enhance the space through clever and multi-functional design. There are many ways you can maximise space through the finer details, including the use of mirrors, opting for light or pastel shades, using metallic textures of making a wall a feature! All these easy yet effective techniques are sure to enhance your space, and your design.
DO Consider Complements & Contrasts
If you love a particular palette, it can often be tempting to stick to that shade, and utilise it throughout your home. Don’t! Although a one hue aesthetic is sometimes ideal for some rooms, it can often be a little boring for others. So, be creative! Complement colours with other tones, or mix-and-match your palettes. Go on, get experimental.
DON’T Do It Yourself If You Don’t Know How
If you are unsure about a job or doubt your skills, don’t be afraid to call in the professionals. After all, it’s more important that a job is done right and to a high standard, no matter the cost.
DON’T Confuse Your Interior
You may like more than one style, but that doesn’t mean that you should choose to be inspired by them all! Try not to clutter your interior, keeping colours, styles, textures and palettes to a cohesive minimum. Too many styles will create a confused aesthetic, causing chaos rather than relaxation!
DON’T Forget To Plan
With careful planning, comes beautiful results, so before you start to get DIY-crazy – ensure that the space has been planned effectively and you have fully utilised the room’s potential.
